About Me
I’m originally from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I love Sabah and I think every Malaysian should travel there at least once. If you’re not up for climbing Mt. Kinabalu (which I have climbed three times – the only times in my life when I have had severe suicidal thoughts), the islands are just as beautiful.
I lived in KL for about 6 years. Studied and worked there as a music teacher. I enjoyed teaching music, and I am sure when I’m done with my studies, I’ll definitely be going back to some form of teaching. As long as I still get to eat and sleep whenever I feel like it. Yes, I am spoilt! but only when it comes to food. I like my food to be tasty.
I like reading books, but I love collecting books even more – even when I don’t get down to actually reading them. I just have a sense of satisfaction when tons of books are surrounding me. When I get rich enough, I’d like to buy a lovely house facing the ocean, and have a special room just dedicated to my books. I think I’ll call it my library. Oh, I’ll also have a garden just in case I feel like having garden parties.
My MBTI personality states that I am an INTP. So if you believe in that kind of stuff, go find out what kind of person I am according to MBTI. If you don’t believe in personality tests and the ever subjective world of Psychology, don’t bother figuring out what kind of person I am. I think I am weird, and that should get you curious enough to know me more.
I am conflicted with what my favorite color is. Sometimes I think it is red, but some days, I just love deep purple. Sometimes it changes to dark blue, then some days I like red again. So, basically, it shouldn’t matter what color I like. I don’t have a favorite song either. I like many songs, but no favorites. I don’t have a favorite composer too. So don’t ask me who it is. Obviously, as a student and teacher of classical music, I like most music that fall under that umbrella. Still, I like other kinds of music like jazz and pop. I don’t like the noisy stuff, whatever they want to call it nowadays.
I used to be called Mat Salleh in school. I guess it’s because I don’t look like your typical Malaysian. My blood is mixed, and that is how I get my interesting skin color and features. People ask me about my mixed heritage a lot. All I can say is that I am half Malaysian, and half French. When I fill up forms, I tick the ‘Lain-lain’ (others) box. They don’t even have a real name for people like me yet. Heh.
I’m interested in many things, and sometimes I find it hard to keep track. I like history and philosophy. I enjoy learning about the politics of Malaysia and the mess it leaves behind. I know all the good places to eat in Malaysia (well, not ALL, but…), and apparently I sort of know the cheap and nice places to eat around Boston too. I enjoy watching TV shows, and no I am not addicted – I just usually finish an entire season in two days that’s all. Not too bad.
Happy reading my blog.
Love,
MatSalleh aka Dom
